On 3 June 2025, the ASEANAPOL Secretariat warmly welcomed representatives from Freeland for a coordination meeting in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the next phase of the TRIPOD II project and upcoming regional events. The meeting reaffirmed the strong and strategic partnership between the two organizations, with ASEANAPOL serving as Freeland’s official partner for the implementation of TRIPOD II across Southeast Asia.
Freeland was represented by Ms. Onkuri Majumdar, Managing Director, and Ms. Kartika Rana, Communications Officer and International Coordinator. They were received by the Executive Director of the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, Police Colonel David Martinez Vinluan, together with Director for Police Services (DPS) Senior Superintendent Huntal Tambunan, Deputy Superintendent Suresh Subramaniam, Deputy Superintendent Abdul Hamid Hashi, Assistant Superintendent Nithia Perumal, Assistant Superintendent Nurul Engku and Ms. Suhasini Gunasagaran, and.
The visit took place in advance of the Trafficking-Free Enterprises (TFE) activities scheduled in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Hai Phong, Vietnam. These events—focused on countering wildlife and environmental crimes—form a vital component of the TRIPOD II initiative: Targeting Regional Investigations and Policing Opportunities for Development II. The activities are generously funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and implemented through close collaboration with ASEANAPOL.
Freeland expressed its sincere appreciation to the ASEANAPOL Secretariat for the warm reception and steadfast coordination support, which continues to play a critical role in advancing the goals of the TRIPOD II project.
Looking forward, ASEANAPOL and Freeland remain jointly committed to enhancing regional cooperation, law enforcement capacity, and cross-sectoral engagement in tackling transnational environmental crimes. Their collaboration stands as a model of shared responsibility and partnership in promoting security, sustainability, and justice across the ASEAN region.
